MARKETFED: KERALA’S APEX COOPERATIVE IN AGRICULTURAL MARKETING
The Kerala State Co-operative Marketing Federation Ltd. (MARKETFED) began its journey on 34th December 1942 as a district wholesale co-operative store in the Malabar region.it evolved into a state level apex body in 1960, expanding its operations across Kerala. MARKETFED is an apex federation of primary marketing societies functioning in the state of Kerala.
Headquartered at Gandhinagar, kochi, MARKETFED operates across Kerala though its district level offices and have branch offices at Delhi and Mumbai. MARKETFED has fertilizer mixing units in Taliparamba (Kannur) Vellimon (Kollam) and Mundoor (Thrissur). It has also warehouses/godowns in Gandinagar (Ernakulam), Nedumkandam (Idukki), Kadauvakulam (Kotttayam), Taliparamba (Kannur), Delhi, and Mumbai. Marketfed is also exploring the new avenues by actively fostering its online presence with a view to help the farmers.
FERTILIZERS
MARKETFED helps farmers by providing organic and chemical fertilizers, bio-fertilizers, water-soluble fertilizers, secondary plant nutrients, micro-nutrients, growth promoters, bio pesticides, and chemical pesticides. As a player in the sector, Marketfed partners with major fertilizer manufatures and distributors such as IFFCO, IPL, RCF, FACT, SPIC, MFL, GREENSTAR, KRIBHCO, MCF, ZUARI, MOSAIC INDIA. Wholesale distribution is facilitated through authorized dealers across kerala. Fertilizer mixing units are strategically located at taliaparamba in Kannur and Vellimon in Kollam to ensure timely supply and quality assurance.
EMPOWERING FARMERS THOUGH FPOs
Marketfed has been selected as a Cluster-Based Business organization (CBBO) for the formation and promotion of 15 farmer producer Organizations(FPOs) in Kerala, which has been successful completion. this initiative is part of the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare’s flagship scheme to establish 10000 FPOs across the country. The primary aim is to empower farmers by reducing input costs, improving access to markets, and enhancing their collective bargaining power. By procuring value-added products. MARKETFED ensures the best price for the farmers.

This includes branding and marketing of its own products by procuring Kerala’s agricultural produce with an emphasis on value-added coconut and spices. Marketfed is now poised to consolidate and expand its role and is committed to sustainable cooperative economic development. In this ongoing grand journey, the new principles of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) and the unique codes and standards envisaged in the recently announced Kerala Cooperative Policy of the Government of Kerala will guide us in the days to come.
